Personal Safety During the Clinical Year

The City College of New York Department of Public Safety makes safety and security in our community a top priority.  The University takes a proactive approach to guarding the well-being of our community by providing a broad range of services that meet the needs and expectations of a safe community. Our goal is to maintain the safety and security of all people and property at the University. Most importantly, campus safety is a collective and collaborative effort, and at The City University of New York, personal safety is a partnership between public safety officers and the community whom we serve.  The Public Safety Department maintains campus services such as the CUNY Alert emergency notification system and free college shuttle service that loops throughout the campus community, connecting students with the nearest two subway stations and Harlem Hospital Center. These services provided by public safety are outlined in the Physician Assistant Student Handbook, on the CCNY website (https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/safety), and reviewed during the student orientation to the PA Program held in August on the first week of matriculation.

CUNY Public safety department seeks to provide transparency for the community to enhance trust and accountability. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a federal statute that requires colleges to store and disclose campus crime statistics. This information is disseminated each year in an Annual Security Report at:  Public Safety Reporting – The City University of New York

In addition to the measures above, the College has invested in several other security measures, documented at:  https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/publicsafety/.

Every student is encouraged to download the Noonlight®. This app may be used on or off campus, even in remote locations to summon emergency services using location tracking software in the United States.
